The Immune System Strengthener

With everything that’s been going on in the world over the past 2 years, the words IMMUNE SYSTEM have been very prevalent – and with good reason!

The truth is “your immune system most probably needs more attention”.

You see, our immune system is key to not just our health, but our very survival.

It is working extremely hard – 24 hours a day 7 days a week – to protect our bodies from all sorts of beasties that are trying to attack and weaken us! It’s our bodyguard.

In addition, the methods that will strengthen your immune system are also things that will help your other fitness goals – such as getting fitter, stronger, leaner, and a healthier body. WIN WIN or what!?!

That’s why your health & fitness goals should always take your immune system into account.

AND, you know me, I’m always ready to help with some real-life tips and methods that you can start strengthening your immune system immediately.

Without further-a-do, here goes…

8 Easy To Implement Ways To Strengthen Your Immune System:

Reduce your sugar intake. Added sugars contribute to disease-causing inflammation within the body. They also contribute to obesity, type 2 diabetes, and heart disease. All of these will negatively affect your immune system.

Get more fibre. The healthy bacteria in your gut (gut microbiome) can improve your immunity while keeping pathogens from getting into your body through your digestive tract

Get an absolute minimum of 6 hours sleep each night, ideally 7 hours plus.  Lack of quality sleep makes you more susceptible to getting sick – this has been emphatically proven with numerous studies and trials.

Eat lots of plant based foods.  Fruits, vegetables, legumes, nuts etc. contain antioxidants, anti-inflammatories, and vitamin C, which will all help you fight illness.

Exercise Regularly. Exercise has been proven to cut inflammation plus promote the turnover of immune cells in your system. I would recommend a minimum of 3 sessions per week, 45 to 60 minutes in duration to start with.

Keep well hydrated, daily. Water is key to your body, and it’s many systems, working correctly and efficiently. Drink an absolute minimum of two litres of water every single day.

Get outdoors. The immune system needs sunlight and fresh air to be at its best.

Learn to destress. Find ways that healthily reduces your stress, and do at least one of them daily. This could be pilates, yoga, meditation, prayer, keeping a journal, affirmations, exercise, or anything else that helps you remove stress. Being stressed is linked with inflammation within the body as well negatively affecting your immune cell function.

Your health and fitness should always be a high priority on your list! Don’t wait for ‘illness or ill health’ to strike for you to take action.

Having a proactive approach to your health, fitness and wellbeing is the base camp to living a happy, healthy and energised life.
