How To RESET After A Crazy Night Out!

We’ve all done it…
Gone for a ‘night out’ and ended up absolutely wasted!
The next day everything comes crashing down, and the familiar bad habits begin to kick in!
BUT – it doesn’t have to be like that!
With summer firmly upon us and lockdown restrictions easing , many are going out regularly again, socialising and ‘letting loose’.
Whilst socialising and fun are key to human life, a weekend of “too much fun” can most certainly take its toll on you, your health and your fitness goals – particularly if the coming days see bad habits sneak in.
Here are some of my “do’s” and “don’ts” to follow immediately after that crazy night out…
DO:
- Drink lots and lots of water
- Get out of bed as soon as possible
- Get outdoors – have a brisk walk
- Eat nutritious protein based meals/snacks
- Get straight back on your plan!
DON’T
- Beat yourself up and give up on the day
- Lay in bed and procrastinate
- Skip meals
- Fill up on sugary processed foods
- Have a ‘hair of the dog’ – and start drinking again
Let me expand on some of these further…
Craving Chaos…
Whilst in the morning the thought of food may ‘make your stomach turn!’
However, at some point you will recover and most probably turn ravenous, and start craving sweet, sugary and processed foods.
FIGHT back and resist these cravings!
Instead, prepare yourself a high protein and high nutrient meal. This will help you avoid spikes in your blood sugar levels.
The Dwelling Mind…
It’s done – don’t dwell on it! Focus solely on getting back on track. The longer you dwell and leave it, the more difficult it becomes to regain your normal health and fitness routine. Move on and focus on the new day and week ahead, ticking off your health and fitness goals one at a time.
The Write-Off…
We’ve all been there – where the mind just says “stay in bed, you need it”. The mind is a lair in this situation! As tempting as it may be, DO NOT STAY IN BED ALL DAY!
This is succumbing to the hangover, and we extend it and cause you more pain!
You don’t have to go out and do an intense workout or exercise – simply get out and move! Going for a walk in the fresh air will improve your mood, brighten your mind and make you feel better.
The Starvation Tactic…
Skipping meals to compensate for your overindulgence is a common tactic employed by many, but this is certainly an unhealthy cycle to get into.
If eating isn’t something you are feeling the start of the day, have something light till your appetite begins to come back.
The most important starting point is to drink water, and lots of it!
This is even more important if you’ve drunk lots of alcohol – as this will have put you in a state of dehydration.
