How Fat Loss Can Be Accelerated By Body Acceptance and Self-Care…

Do you want to lose fat? Have a flatter tummy? Tone up in those ‘wobbly areas’???

We all have body parts and areas we are not happy with, that’s normal.

And whilst as a fitness professional I certainly know that these parts and areas can be improved, changed or completely transformed – I also know this very important point to…….WE GET ONLY ONE BODY IN THIS LIFE – and we all need to accept, respect and rejoice at this!

So, whatever position and condition your body is in at this very moment in time, please know that it doesn’t just deserve your love – IT NEEDS IT!

You need to take this onboard…really… and learn to love your body how it is!

I no doubt am confusing the hell out of you right now, as you know my total commitment is to transforming peoples bodies and lives via fitness…but, please, stick with me – it will all become clear!

You see, when you love your body, amazing things can truly happen!

This is no easy task, as modern day life will give you a daily body beat-down through it’s Facebook, Instagram and Love Island Henchmen and women!

But, know this – it is possible to beat this – and it all comes down to mindset!

Just for a minute think about the really good relationships you have with certain people – these could be with friends, family, work colleagues or a partner.

Now, tell me, do these relationships contain plenty of…

  • trust?
  • acceptance?
  • respect?
  • openness?
  • communication?
  • love?

I guarantee that if it really is a good relationship it will contain many of these elements, if not all!

And guess what – this is the sort of relationship you need to get to with your OWN BODY!

Now, let’s flip this around!

Think of some really bad relationships you’ve had with people. Maybe it was with the school bully, a totally incompatible partner or a friend who turned out to be a ‘snake’.

Did these relationships contain plenty of…

  • mistrust?
  • criticism?
  • abuse?
  • lies?
  • hostility?
  • belittling?

Negative relationships like these are NOT good for you and can lead to self–harm, low self-esteem and even self–loathing.

And, guess what!? When you have a bad internal relationship with your body it will often result in the same!

By insulting, mocking or degrading your own appearance it will lead to SELF-HATRED, LACK OF CONFIDENCE and A DESTRUCTIVE SELF-IMAGE!

Please – do NOT fall into this trap!

How To Stop Hating & Start Loving Your Body…

So, we now know the importance in accepting our bodies rather than loathing them. Like I said earlier, this is not always an easy task.

However, like most things, there are solutions, and I’m going to give you some great techniques to help you achieve this necessity…

a) Determine What Body Shape You Have:

No two people on earth are the same! This is a great thing, but can also be a hard truth to swallow when you have envy of others.

Whilst you may not be the airbrushed, morphed and sculpted body shape that clogs up Instagram, please know that you are unique…you are beautiful…and you are an amazing collection of cells that have come together in a miracle that is you!

And whilst you are totally unique, there are in fact 8 body type classifications (these specifically apply to women). These are:

  • Diamond
  • Hourglass
  • Inverted Triangle
  • Top Hourglass
  • Oval
  • Pear
  • Straight
  • Spoon

Another 3 phase body classification which can be applied to both men and women is:

  • Ectomorph: Lean and long, with difficulty building muscle.
  • Endomorph: Big, high body fat, often pear-shaped, with a high tendency to store body fat.
  • Mesomorph: Muscular and well-built, with a high metabolism and responsive muscle cells.

Your classification shape is determined by factors such as genetic makeup, lifestyle, food you eat, medications you are on, and the discipline/respect you have for your body.

The key is to learn what works best for your current body shape.

This can be in terms of clothing to wear, but likewise can be by finding out what food to eat, training to complete and activities to do which will maximise the results specific to your body type.

b) Keep Your Mind In The Right Condition:

Learn to acknowledge your emotions, thoughts and motives – and ultimately keep them in control in a way that benefits you and the people around you.

You need to determine:

  • What empowers you?
  • What creates joy in you?
  • What inspires you?
  • What disempowers you?
  • What un-motivates you?

Once you have the answers to these questions you can put together a pro-active plan to add and eliminate things accordingly.

And – just like your body – your mind also requires regular rest.

Most people require a minimum of seven hours of sleep each night.

If you fail to get this your brain will begin to fire out distress signals to the rest of your body!

These signals can often disrupt your healthy habits and the everyday processes which are key to a happy and energised life.

c) Improvement Comes With Movement – So Move Your Body Daily:

You body was  not designed to be still for long periods of time – it requires to move!

This is inbred within us going back tens of thousands of years to when we didn’t have food ‘easily to hand’ – we had to catch it!

It was not a choice or desire back then, it was a necessity to keep yourself and your family alive!

So, do what you was designed to do – MOVE, MOVE, MOVE!

d) Keep Hydrated & Moisturised:

I’m on about it yet again!!!

Water is the main element in the human body,  and makes up in excess of half of our bodies weight!

Throughout the day we are losing large amounts of water from ours bodies, not only from urination and perspiration, but also from other bodily functions such as digestion and respiration.

And the more physically active you are, the more you will be using.

Place a major emphasis on staying fully hydrated throughout the day. The majority of people are in a permanent state of ‘mild dehydration’ which will have a knock-on effect on how your organs function.

Staying hydrated is mainly about consuming water regularly throughout the day. However, consideration should also be given to your skin.

Your skin requires moisture to enable it to perform it’s task of protecting you from the environment around you.

I strongly suggest you protect your skin from everyday stresses and harmful UV rays using a daily moisturiser with sun protection included.

e) Eat Good Quality Protein Each & Every Day:

Did you know that whilst your body readily stores carbohydrates, it does not afford it’s macronutrient sibling protein the same privilege!

Therefore if your body is short of protein it doesn’t have a stockpile ready to compensate for this shortage!

For this reason it is super important we are taking in the right amounts of protein on a daily basis.

And as protein is a component of every cell in our bodies and is required to build/repair tissue – it is not simply an optional extra that some people see it as!
